[ARCHIVED] August 2022 Board Meeting - Press Release

Press Release

The District Board of Directors met on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at 4:30 PM.

The Board of Directors awarded several 2022 budgeted Capital Improvement construction contracts:

  • Atkins Brothers Equipment Company, Inc. was awarded the Greenwood Waterline Extension Project.  This project involves the installation of 1,400 linear feet of a 12" waterline.
  • Day Services, LLC was awarded the CR 1206 Waterline Replacement Project to install approximately 6,540 linear feet of 6-inch C900 (DR18) PVC waterline.
  • TTE, LLC was awarded the construction contract for the Pump Station No. 5 Pressure Tank Project.  This project includes the rehabilitation and relocation of an existing 12,000-gallon pressure tank, the removal and disposal of the existing pressure tanks at Pump Station No. 5, and fence, gate, and access drive improvements.
  • Jeremiah Bihl, District Engineer, reported to the Board of Directors that Transportation and Municipal Engineers, LLC held a bid opening for the CR 401 Waterline Project to install 2,315 linear feet of 8" waterline.  While the District did receive seven bids for this project, the bids came in $40,000 above the project budget of $174,749.  Therefore, the Board voted to reject all bids to allow JCSUD staff to work with the engineering to evaluate possible cost engineering options.  Once the evaluation is complete, District staff will place the project out for bid again.

The Board of Directors voted on a design for the colors and JCSUD logo to be painted on the new Plant 08 Elevated Storage Tank.  ThisPlant 08 Design selection stems from design components of Contract "A" of the Plant 08 Improvement Project and is also a continuation of JCSUD's new branding.

In addition, the Board of Directors awarded Atkins Brothers Equipment Company, Inc. the Construction Contract for Contract "B" of the Plant 08 Water Line Improvements Project.  This project will install approximately 8,000 linear feet of ductile iron water distribution lines throughout Pressure Plane 08 in the vicinity of Joshua and Burleson, Texas.

The Operations and Utility Service Departments have continued to work aggressively to reduce water loss within the system.  In the last 150 days, total water loss percentages have decreased to 7.73%.  The staff has accomplished this by meeting weekly to discuss strategies to mitigate water loss through training on best practices, timely addressing system damages and repairs, and evaluating infrastructure with a high report of leakage. JCSUD General Manager, Pete Kampfer, noted that the District’s water loss has dropped by more than 50% in the past four months.
